Popular American streamer iShowSpeed has responded to criticism from some Nigerian content creators who accused him of being disrespectful for not collaborating with them during his recent Africa tour in Nigeria.
Addressing the backlash, Speed explained that the goal of his Africa tour was never about streamer or influencer collaborations. According to him, the tour was designed to showcase the culture of African countries, with a strong focus on everyday people, local communities, street performers, and talents that rarely get global attention.
He made it clear that the tour schedule was planned long before his arrival, with each stop carefully arranged by his team. Speed said every day on the tour is time restricted, with specific locations he must visit in each country, leaving little or no room for unplanned meetups or collaborations.
Speed also pointed out that many of the creators criticizing him already have established platforms and visibility. In contrast, he said the purpose of the tour is to shine a light on people who do not have access to such exposure, especially local talents whose skills are often overlooked.
He stressed that he would not cancel or ignore cultural experiences arranged by locals just to make room for influencers, adding that doing so would defeat the purpose of the tour. According to him, the intention is to put African culture on display for the world to see, not to centre the experience around internet personalities.
The streamer’s explanation has sparked mixed reactions online. While some creators maintain that collaborations would have helped grow the local content space, many Nigerians have defended Speed, saying his approach helped spotlight raw talent, culture, and everyday life beyond social media fame.
Speed’s Africa tour has attracted massive global attention, with millions watching his livestreams as he explores different countries, interacts with locals, and experiences cultural moments rarely shown on mainstream platforms.
