Zaddy Sokoh, the Urhobo-born actor, comedian and online content creator from the Ughelli-Warri area of Delta State, says digital content creation has become a crucial part of society, helping keep young people engaged and away from crime. Sokoh is also a mainstream actor known for his role as Oduma in the popular Akpan & Oduma comedy series.
In a recent interview, Sokoh reflected on his journey from traditional Nollywood acting into creating online content and shared his views on the role creativity plays in society. He said that content creation is more than entertainment, and that it offers many young Nigerians a constructive outlet and potential livelihood.
Sokoh spoke directly about the impact of content creation on crime levels in Nigeria, saying:
“Without content creation, Nigeria would have higher crime rate.”
He explained that many young people find purpose, inspiration and economic opportunity through digital storytelling, comedy and other creative work online, work that might otherwise be lacking in communities with fewer job options. Sokoh views this engagement as a positive force that helps channel energy away from negative behaviours.
Talking about his own career, Sokoh noted that transitioning from Nollywood acting to building his brand online wasn’t planned at first. It grew from his love of comedy and storytelling and eventually became a way for him to reach audiences directly, bypassing some of the traditional barriers in the Nigerian film industry.
