Adunni Ade is in mourning. She took to Instagram to announce that her mother has died after a long battle with illness, posting photos of the two of them together, including some from moments they shared.
The post was quiet and prayerful, and it quickly drew attention from fans and colleagues in the industry.
Ade began with the Islamic words said at times of loss, which carry the meaning that to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. She described her mother as beloved and said she had returned to her Creator, adding that she was accepting this with a heavy heart and in submission to Allah’s will.
From there, the post became a long prayer. Ade asked Allah to forgive her mother’s shortcomings, have mercy on her, make her grave spacious and filled with light, and grant her a place in Al-Jannah Firdaus. She also prayed for patience and strength for herself and her family as they come to terms with the loss.
She noted that her mother leaves behind children, grandchildren, sisters and other loved ones who will always hold her memory close. Her closing words were the simplest: “Mum, I love you.”
She asked that they be reunited in paradise, and said details of the funeral arrangements would be shared in due course.
The announcement has since attracted condolence messages from colleagues and followers, many of them offering prayers for Ade and her family.
Ade is a Nigerian-American actress and model who has worked in both English-language and Yoruba-language films. Over the years she has built a name for versatility and remains a familiar face in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

It is easy to forget that the people we watch on screen go through the same heartbreak as everyone else. A mother’s long illness and passing is hard in any home, and Ade chose to share her grief openly, the way many people do when they need others to carry them in prayer.
For now, the family is mourning, and the funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
