Eight years on, D’banj shared an emotional note on X to his late son Daniel, saying his family has found a safe space to heal. Read the words he shared.
D’banj is still talking to his son. On Thursday, October 29, 2026, the singer posted a note on X addressed to his late son, Daniel D3rd, with photographs of moments they shared. He said he misses the little boy, and that his family has finally found “a Safe Space” to heal.
Daniel died in June 2018 at just 13 months old. He reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at the family’s home in Ikoyi, Lagos. D’banj and his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow, had welcomed him in May 2017, about a year after their June 2016 wedding.
What stands out about the post is how gentle it is. D’banj calls Daniel “our family’s star boy” and admits he can’t imagine what the boy’s mother has been through. Then he turns to the hopeful side of the story. He says he, his wife and Daniel’s brother and sister are in a safe space now, and that he’s sure Daniel is proud of them. He also thanks his son for showing him “what life Really is”.
There’s a tender moment in the middle of it too. He asks Daniel to say hello to his uncle Femi and tell him he’s missed as well. He ends by telling his son, “Daddy loves you Specially, Physically, Spiritually and Powerfully.”
Since Daniel’s passing, the couple has welcomed two more children, a son and a daughter. D’banj has also spoken before about how his faith helped him cope with the loss.
Anyone who has lost someone will probably recognise something in this note. Eight years later, the pain is still there, but so is the peace he describes, and he seems to want his son to know both.
