Rachael Okonkwo is having quite a season. The Nollywood actress, loved by many as Nkoli in the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka movie series, is now engaged. Videos of the proposal have surfaced online just weeks after she was handed a big job in Enugu State.
The clips show a setting planned with care, with flower petals, candles and elaborate floral arrangements all around. Her partner, a businessman, pops the question, and Okonkwo, in a black sequin dress, looks delighted as she showers him with affection. At one point, she can be heard saying, “My baby, my billionaire baby.”
Fans and Nollywood followers have taken notice, which isn’t surprising. Okonkwo has been a familiar face in indigenous films for a long time. She hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State and began acting in the mid-2000s, building her name one role at a time. Away from the screen, she has also stayed close to her community through initiatives focused on children and social development.
The timing adds a little extra sparkle to the story. On September 21, 2026, Governor Peter Mbah appointed her Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development. Her name was on a list of government aides announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia. She wasn’t the only Nollywood name to get an appointment, as veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was also named. In her new role, Okonkwo is expected to help drive efforts to grow the state’s film and creative industry.
So between a new government role and a romantic proposal, it’s been a big few weeks for the Nkoli Nwa Nsukka star. It will be interesting to see what comes next, whether that’s wedding plans or her first moves in office.
